Workflow guide · October 2026

Give your AI a design brief, not just a screenshot.

A screenshot shows the destination. A short brief with actual colors, font sizes, spacing and a component example gives your coding assistant concrete values to work with. Here is a workflow you can use with DevTools today, or with Stylegrab when its Chrome listing is available.

1. Pick a specific reference

Choose a page you own or have permission to reuse. Decide which qualities you need: a readable type scale, quiet cards, a clear primary button. Collecting every detail usually creates a less useful brief than choosing a few relevant patterns.

2. Collect the values that set the visual language

With DevTools, inspect the relevant elements and check their Computed styles. In Stylegrab, inspect an element and press C to copy its CSS; use the page overview for colors and fonts. The Pro design-brief action copies a Markdown summary to your clipboard. It does not call an AI service.

3. Start with a brief like this

This is an illustrative example, not a claim that these values fit every site. Replace them with your reference values and check your project's existing tokens.

Build a settings panel using these reference values:

Background: #0E1016
Surface: #171B24
Primary text: #E7E9EE
Secondary text: #A6ACBA
Accent: #7C6CFF
Body type: system sans-serif, 16px, line-height 1.5
Heading: 28px, weight 700
Spacing steps: 8px, 16px, 24px
Card radius: 12px

Keep the information hierarchy and keyboard access clear.
Use the values above as a starting point, then verify contrast.
Keep our own labels, content and product identity.
Check the result at 390px and 1280px widths.
Explain any values you change and why.

4. Copy a component, then adapt it

Use a small button or card rather than a whole page. Stylegrab's HTML/CSS export is a static snapshot of the current viewport, capped at 400 DOM elements. It does not reproduce JavaScript interactions, a complete responsive system or Shadow DOM contents. Restore the behavior, semantics and breakpoints your own product needs.

Tailwind export includes exact values for individual borders and elliptical corners. Your project's theme and surrounding layout can still change the final result, so compare the pasted component at your target sizes.

5. Check the result in the browser

Reading the original rule and reading the rendered result answer different questions. The browser's getComputedStyle documentation explains resolved values; the cascade guide explains why layer order affects which rule wins.

Release status: Stylegrab is preparing its first Chrome Web Store release. Free inspection tools and daily Pro trials are included in the extension; installation opens after listing approval, and Pro sales open after live payment approval.
